5 Surprising Twists to the French Manicure

I never stop marveling at how a body part as insignificant as fingernails can create an entire industry. And then I feel bad for collar bones and elbows because they never quite made the cut.

Sure, you have detachable collars and elbow patches, but that can’t quite compare to millions of nail art designs, including these 5 unique twists to the classic French Manicure.

1. Cafe Latte/Nude nails wrapped with Black

The French manicure has always been about the “tips”. In this fun twist, The Nail Buff experiments with cafe latte nails and had only the edges “wrapped up” with a solid black for a powerful contrast. Incredibly subtle, yet impressive!

In the world of Pinterest, you almost find yourself in a blissful stampede of pretty and colorful things. The leader of which is this picture of the world’s most perfect fun and flirty french manicure.

I love the idea of nude nails + rainbow colored tips as much as I love hugs from unicorns, which is saying a lot.

3. Leather Nails

Sophy Robson was asked by luxury brand, Loewe, to create a nail design that reflects their leather jackets, and this is what she came up with. For a second there, I was all, *What is this sorcery?!*

Who knew that matte brown + matte black tips would make your nails look like leather?

P.S. How to DIY matte nail polish.

I don’t think I’ve ever said the word “Fierce!” out loud before, but if ever there was a time to say it, it would be now.

These images by Chloe’s Nails have been going doughnut-viral on the internet. That’s when things are passed around as fast as doughnuts, which is a term I just invented and think I’m going to say a lot.

5. Reverse French Manicure

I like it when people do things in reverse. Like with the reverse French Braid Bun, and when I go backwards into the car park space. It’s just more fun, you know?

You can try the reverse french manicure with all kinds of colors, but this matte navy blue + reflective gold “tips” is my favorite.
